Henry Armstrong Scholarship
Henry Armstrong dedicated more than 36 years of service to Auburn University Credit Union (AUCU), leaving a legacy defined by leadership, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to people. Joining AUCU in 1990, Henry played a pivotal role in the Credit Union’s growth and stability, serving most notably as President and Chief Executive Officer from 1997 to 2026.
Throughout his career, Henry was known not only for his deep knowledge of lending and finance but also for his genuine care for others. He believed that access to financial opportunity could change the trajectory of a life—and he worked tirelessly to ensure AUCU members were treated with respect, patience, and encouragement. Whether assisting a first-time borrower, mentoring a colleague, or advising leadership, Henry led with humility and trust.
A natural teacher and mentor, Henry quietly shaped countless careers at AUCU. One colleague even referred to their time learning from him as “Armstrong University,” a testament to his willingness to share knowledge, answer questions without judgment, and help others grow with confidence. His leadership style emphasized accountability, curiosity, and doing the right thing—even when it wasn’t the easiest path.
The Henry Armstrong Scholarship was established to honor his lifelong dedication to education, mentorship, and opportunity. It reflects his belief in investing in the future—particularly in students who demonstrate character, commitment, and a desire to better themselves and their communities.
